In winter, some car models are particularly vulnerable to cold weather due to design features, drive system or materials used. This was reported by Deputy Director for Legal Affairs of the multi-brand car dealership "Automall" Anatoly Mikhailyuta on Friday, November 22.

He recalled that some models of all-wheel drive cars (AWD and 4x4), despite the fact that they provide better traction, have features to be aware of.

"These include, for example, certain Jeep Cherokee models due to drivetrain issues that show up most noticeably if the 4WD system has been used on dry pavement for a long time. Older Subaru models can also have corrosion issues. First of all, cars that have not been treated against it in any way," - said the auto expert in conversation with Lenta.Ru.

Mikhailiuta added that cars with low ground clearance may have problems with passability in deep snow. First of all, they include sedans, such as Honda Accord or Toyota Camry.

According to the expert, electric cars and hybrids, which have their own technical peculiarities, experience difficulties in the winter months. For example, batteries of Nissan Leaf electric car can lose a significant part of their capacity in the cold, which leads to a reduction in the range of travel. And the Tesla Model 3 may require more energy for heating in cold weather, which also reduces range.

The auto expert added that some Volkswagen Jetta and Ford Focus owners have reported heating system malfunctions, especially during the colder months.

He noted that owners of vehicles with problematic batteries can also experience difficulties during the winter.

"For example, older BMW models are known to be prone to battery problems in cold temperatures. Certain Mazda models face difficulties with the starting system," concluded Mihailiuta.

Earlier, on November 13, the technical director of the international franchise network of car services FIT SERVICE Nikita Rodionov in a conversation with "Izvestia" dispelled myths about the operation of transport in winter.

The expert noted that prolonged warm-up not only does not accelerate the warm-up process, but also increases fuel consumption and engine wear. At temperatures below -10 degrees Celsius it is necessary to warm up the car for two minutes, and at -20 - up to five minutes.

He also told why cars catch fire more often in winter. Leakage of technical fluid, short circuit in the electrical system, installation of abnormal equipment are the main causes of fire in the car, RT reports.

Earlier, on November 8, Sergei Burov, head of the marketplace "PEC: MALL", gave advice on checking the car before the onset of winter in a conversation with Izvestia. According to him, including replacing tires, checking the condition of oil, battery and cooling and heating systems.
