German Foreign Ministry regrets Ukraine's decision to use anti-personnel mines

Germany regrets Ukraine 's decision to use anti-personnel mines. This was stated by German Foreign Ministry spokesman Christian Wagner at a government press conference on November 22, the video of which was published on the YouTube channel Jung & Naiv.
"The fact that Ukraine has decided to take this step and sees it as an advantage <...> is regrettable," Wagner said when asked about Berlin's attitude to Kiev's use of anti-personnel mines.
He also added that Berlin is in favor of preserving the Ottawa Treaty (banning anti-personnel mines - Ed.) around the world.
On the previous day, the mass media reported that the US sending anti-personnel mines to Ukraine was a controversial decision, as it would not help prevent the advance of the Russian Armed Forces (AF) in the war zone.
Earlier, on 20 November, The Washington Post (WP) said that incumbent US President Joe Biden had authorized the delivery of anti-personnel mines to Ukraine in order to "deter the advance of Russian troops". WP recalled that he renewed the ban on the use of such mines in 2022, effectively reversing the decision of his predecessor Donald Trump.
On the same day, Rodion Miroshnik, the Russian Foreign Ministry's ambassador-at-large for Kiev's crimes, called Ukraine's use of anti-personnel mines a crime. He said that under the Ottawa Treaty, Ukraine had to destroy all anti-personnel mines in their possession since 2009.
Retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Earl Rasmussen, a political scientist, pointed out that Biden gave the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) permission on the mines because Kiev was in a desperate situation on the battlefield. The expert emphasized that this move by the US president is controversial, because anti-personnel mines pose a danger to civilians.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the backdrop of Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which began on February 24, 2022. The decision to carry it out was taken by the Russian president because of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to the increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
