Russia has started a "frightening escalation" of the conflict in Ukraine by launching an intermediate-range missile at a facility in Dnipropetrovsk. This opinion was expressed by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on November 22.

"How dangerous this <military operation> is, the latest escalation shows us: [Russian President Vladimir] Putin used medium-range missiles to strike the territory of Ukraine. A frightening escalation," Scholz said, speaking to NTV.

He added that despite Russia's actions, Germany is not changing its position and will not supply Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles. Also, the FRG will not give Kiev permission to use its weapons for targets on Russian territory.

On November 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Ukraine had used Western long-range weapons against the Russian state, causing the regional conflict to acquire elements of a global conflict. He also said that a test of the Oreshnik ballistic missile had taken place under combat conditions.

The strike was made on the plant "Yuzhmash" in Dnepropetrovsk. Denis Pushilin, head of the Donetsk People's Republic, called the launch a fair response to Kiev's aggression against peaceful Russian cities. Later, in his Telegram channel, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term expired on May 20) demanded a reaction from the world.

At the same time, Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh said in a briefing that Russia had notified Washington about the launch of the "Nutshell". As Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained on November 22, Moscow did not warn the United States about the launch of Russia's new medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) Oreshnik, but an automatic alert was triggered.

The head of Pakistan's Senate Defense Committee, Mushahid Hussain Sayed, called the test of Russia's new Oreshnik missile a dignified and timely response to the warmongers in the West. The senator called Putin a smart leader and expressed the view that the missile launch was a reaction primarily to the actions of US President Joe Biden and others in the Democratic Party.

The special operation to protect Donbass, which began on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
