Military expert says Russia is ahead of Western countries in missile development

The launch of Russia's new medium-range ballistic hypersonic missile (MRBM) Oreshnik is a revolutionary explosion of domestic engineering. The Russian Federation's design thinking in the field of missile engineering is 10-15 years ahead of similar developments in all countries of the world. Vadim Mingalev, a military analyst and political scientist, told Izvestia on November 22.
He noted that the new weapon was tested in combat conditions and was successful. The expert emphasized that "Oreshnik" is a hypersonic missile of medium range, there are no means to counter it now. The same was reported the day before by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The head of state specified that the weapon is capable of attacking targets at speeds of up to 2-3 km/s and existing air defense systems cannot intercept it.
"It is impossible to defend against this missile. No country, including the United States, neither their air defense missile system of the praised Patriot, nor any other weapons of any kind will protect against the "Oreshnik". This is certainly a know-how. Indeed, it is a revolutionary explosion of our Russian engineering. This missile will strike fear. It has already caused shock and hysteria in Western countries to a certain extent. There is a breakaway of our rocket engineering from the rocket engineering of European countries and the United States," Mingalev said.
The military expert pointed out that the United States made a big strategic mistake by withdrawing from the Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missile Elimination Treaty (INF Treaty).
"As of today, we can be proud of the fact that Russian military science has achieved an advantage. And we are now ahead of the planet. So, of course, it caused a certain irritation and even fear. We are superior to any missiles, both American and European designs, so the Anglo-French development of Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG is a past century. Our design thought is 10-15 years ahead of all similar developments in all countries of the world," Mingalev concluded.
Putin said the previous night that Ukraine had used Western long-range weapons against the Russian state, causing the regional conflict to take on elements of a global conflict. He also said that one of Russia's newest medium-range missile systems, the Oreshnik ballistic missile, had been tested under combat conditions.
The strike was carried out at the Yuzhmash plant in Dnipropetrovsk. Denis Pushilin, head of the Donetsk People's Republic, called the launch a fair response to Kiev's aggression against peaceful Russian cities. Later in his Telegram channel, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose term of office expired on May 20, demanded a response from the world.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
