No list of "Star Wars" games can do without RPG from BioWare studio - Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Taking place thousands of years before the movies, the game was an exceptional product of its time, offering viewers and players a completely different take on the Star Wars universe. Knights of the Old Republic fully immerses into this fictional world, enriches it with new details and allows you to travel through the galaxy and participate in a grandiose space adventure, full of memorable locations, exciting tasks and interesting characters. That's why 20 years later Knights of the Old Republic remains the gold standard of the RPG genre and is so good that it has become outdated only visually and technically. Saber Interactive Studios is currently developing a remake of KOTOR.

Knights of the Old Republic 2 was made by another developer, Obsidian. The second part turned out to be not so perfect, it was underdeveloped and filled with bugs on release. But thanks to the efforts of fans of the series, who lovingly restored much of the cut content and fixed its shortcomings, KOTOR 2 can be recommended for playthrough no less. The game's plot offers a darker and more complex view, with the Jedi Exile becoming the protagonist.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is one of the best Star Wars single-player games released in recent times. The game is set five years after the events of Revenge of the Sith. Players take on the role of Padawan Cal Questis, one of the last surviving Jedi after Order 66. Cal travels the galaxy in an attempt to complete his training and rebuild the Jedi Order.

While the combat system in Fallen Order may seem complicated, mastering it is worth it: the dynamic lightsaber and Force battles are truly engaging. The game is also clearly influenced by the metroidvania genre, with the ability to explore multiple planets over and over again, and unlock customization options for Cal's equipment, lightsaber, and the adorable BD-1 droid.

The second installment in the series, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, continues the story where Fallen Order left off. The game retains all the successful exploration and combat elements and improves upon them. Survivor also integrates Kal and his friends more deeply into the overall Star Wars mythology. It wouldn't be surprising if this character makes an appearance in a TV series or movie sooner or later.

Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

Developer: Raven Software

Year of release: 2002
What to play on: PC, MacOS, Xbox, GameCube, Switch, PlayStation 4

The classic 1990s shooter Star Wars: Dark Forces introduced the world to the hero Kyle Katarn, and in Jedi Outcast he embraced the Force and unleashed his full potential. Jedi Outcast offered a wide variety of weapons and large levels to explore, and the lightsaber combat system was a real breakthrough for the early two-thousandths. Combining Force abilities with three different lightsaber combat styles makes every fight exciting, and this despite the game being "aged". Battles against rank-and-file Stormtrooper opponents are never boring thanks to the ability to use different Force techniques, such as choking an enemy from a distance or pushing them off a cliff.

LEGO Star Wars

Incredibly, games designed to boost sales of the world's most famous constructor are often really good. The latest game in the LEGO Star Wars series and simultaneously a return to its roots, The Skywalker Saga, lets you play as almost any character in the Star Wars universe and follow the storyline of all nine major movies in the saga. In some cases, events are slightly altered to add context or fill in gaps between episodes. The updated combat mechanics and voice acting may seem off-putting at first to those who have played classic LEGO Star Wars, but these changes refresh the game's formula. The updated graphics look great on next-gen consoles while maintaining the signature LEGO style and humor of the game series.

Star Wars: Battlefront II

Star Wars: Battlefront II takes the mechanics of 2004's first installment - specifically the Battlefield-inspired multiplayer mode - and adds to that solid foundation with an engaging single-player story mode. The story is told from the perspective of a Stormtrooper clone (voiced by actor Temur Morrison, who played the role of Jango Fett in the movie). The character fights as part of the 501st Republic Legion against separatist forces.

Matches in Battlefront II have the same feature set as in the first game, but with a few notable additions. The Space Assault multiplayer mode is now available. In it, two teams attack the enemy's main ship with starfighters until its key systems are destroyed. Also added are characters from the prequel movies, for whom you can play, such as Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
