- The Kremlin says it is working out retaliatory measures to the sanctions against Gazprombank

Russia is working on retaliatory measures to the US sanctions against Gazprombank. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov at a briefing on November 22.
He specified that Gazprombank is now clarifying the situation, and offered to contact the organization for comments on this issue.
"Of course, options will be found. Some kind of completely blocking measures against a country like Russia are impossible. It may take some time for this to happen, but a solution will still be found," Peskov said.
The day before Gazprombank fell under the US sanctions, an updated list of which was published on the website of the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC, a division of the US Treasury Department responsible for sanctions enforcement).
Denis Astafiev, founder of the investment company SharesPro, noted that the imposition of sanctions on Gazprombank does not mean its imminent disconnection from the SWIFT payment system, but this probability is increasing. The financier emphasized that Gazprombank was not included in the sanctions list for a long time, as it played an important role in paying for energy supplies, including gas, to Europe. It made payments under exemptions, which was considered important for a stable European energy sector.
In October, Gazprom head Alexei Miller said at a plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum that Europe's policy on the gas market could lead to a new gas price shock and supply disruptions. He called the situation on the European gas market bad and agreed with the assessment that the demand for energy resources there is being destroyed purposefully.
