Moscow did not warn the United States about the launch of Russia's new medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) Oreshnik, but an automatic alert was triggered. This was reported by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on November 22.

The day before, Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh said during a briefing that Russia had notified Washington about the launch of the Oreshnik.

"This is an intermediate-range missile, and so Russia has no obligation to make a notification of the launch. But there is a Russian National Center for Nuclear Threat Reduction (NCNTR), which operates in automatic mode and maintains constant communication with the same system that is in the United States," Peskov explained at the briefing.

According to him, such missiles, unlike intercontinental missiles, do not trigger the obligation to alert. Peskov noted that since Oreshnik is a ballistic missile, the warning was sent automatically half an hour before the launch.

The previous evening, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Ukraine had used Western long-range weapons against the Russian state, causing the regional conflict to acquire elements of a global conflict. He also said that one of Russia's newest medium-range missile systems, the Oreshnik ballistic missile, had been tested under combat conditions.

The strike was carried out at the Yuzhmash plant in Dnipropetrovsk. Denis Pushilin, head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR), called the launch a fair response to Kiev's aggression against peaceful Russian cities. Later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term expired on May 20) demanded a reaction from the world in his Telegram channel.

The special operation to protect Donbass, which began on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
