Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomai Faye, during which the leaders supported the idea of strengthening relations in the trade and economic sphere. This was reported by the Kremlin press service on Friday, November 22.

The leaders supported the idea of strengthening bilateral relations in trade, investment and implementation of joint projects in energy, transport and agriculture, expanding the presence of Russian business in Senegal.

The conversation also discussed the complicated situation in the Sahelo-Saharan and West African regions due to the ongoing activities of terrorist groups.

"Vladimir Putin invited Bassirou Diomai Faye to pay a visit to Russia, the invitation was gratefully accepted," the Kremlin said in a statement.

Earlier, on August 29, Senegalese Foreign Minister Yassine Fall, during talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, noted that relations between Senegal and Russia are friendly and fraternal. In turn, the Russian Foreign Minister also noted the good traditions of friendship in relations between Moscow and Dakar.
