Forecasters predicted winter weather in Russia warmer than normal


A positive deviation from the climatic norm is expected in all Russian regions this winter, Yandex Weather meteorologists have predicted. There will be no temperature records, but forecasters have not ruled out the possibility of one-time severe cold spells. "Izvestia" got acquainted with the experts' forecast on November 22.
"Winter in the European part of Russia, in the Urals and Siberia will be warmer than last year. The most significant deviations are predicted in St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Samara, Ufa and Yekaterinburg. The average winter temperature in St. Petersburg (-3.4 degrees) may be higher than in Moscow, Kazan, Samara, Ufa, Nizhny Novgorod and Voronezh," the forecasters noted.
At the same time, the coldest winter is predicted in Siberia. According to meteorologists, in Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk and Omsk, the average seasonal temperature will drop to -14 degrees Celsius. At the same time, the warmest winter weather is expected in the largest cities of southern Russia: Krasnodar (+2.7 degrees) and Rostov-on-Don (-0.8 degrees).
According to experts, the most rain and snow will fall in Krasnodar (about 192 mm), St. Petersburg (157 mm), Rostov-on-Don, Kazan, Ufa and Nizhny Novgorod (about 150 mm). The least - in deep continental cities of Siberia and the Urals: Chelyabinsk, Omsk, Yekaterinburg and Krasnoyarsk (about 70-80 mm).
In addition, a 1.5-fold decrease in precipitation compared to last winter is expected in Volgograd (up to 112 mm), Voronezh (up to 147 mm), Kazan (up to 152 mm) and Chelyabinsk (up to 72 mm). Forecasters do not forecast positive snow and rain seasonal anomalies.
In addition, meteorologists reported that in February in Krasnodar may fall twice as much precipitation as in 2023. More snowy and rainy February is predicted in Nizhny Novgorod, and January - in Krasnoyarsk. It is also possible to reduce precipitation more than 1.5 times compared to last January in Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don, Volgograd, Voronezh and Kazan.
According to experts' forecasts, winter will be mild in Moscow. The average seasonal temperature will exceed the climatic norm by 1.4 degrees and will be warmer than last year by 2.2 degrees. The coldest month will be January: the temperature will be -5.8 degrees. The warmest will be December, at -3.7 degrees. The expected amount of precipitation will be within the multiyear averages and will reach about 144 mm - 15% less than fell in 2023.
Earlier, on November 21, the scientific head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand said that a sharp change in the weather and a temperature drop of 10-15 degrees from Sunday is predicted in southern Russia. According to him, frosts will intensify on Monday.
