- UK calls Ukraine's situation the weakest since the start of the conflict with Russian Federation

Ukraine's current situation is the weakest since the beginning of the conflict with Russia, while Russian troops are only increasing their advantage. This was stated on November 22 by Matthew Saville, head of the military science department of the British think tank Royal United Services Institute (RUSI).
"Ukraine is in a weaker position now than at any other point in the conflict. Russia is making gains and accumulating advantages in a number of places," The Times quoted the expert as saying.
The expert is deeply convinced that even the permission given to Kiev to use long-range Storm Shadow missiles to strike deep into Russia will not be able to change the course of the conflict. In addition, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have very few such missiles, Gazeta.Ru adds.
"The impact of Storm Shadow will be limited ... The resource is scarce, they (AFU. - Ed.) are saving it," he noted.
As for possible peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, the expert said that the US "will be watching from behind the scenes", realizing that the situation will be "grim" for them.
Prior to that, on November 21, Alice Weidel, co-chair of the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AdG) party, said that Ukraine's use of British Storm Shadow missiles to attack Russian territory was an irresponsible action. She added that instead of further escalation, the goal should be a diplomatic search for balance and understanding.
At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Ukraine had used Western long-range weapons against the Russian state. He noted that in this way the regional conflict had acquired elements of global character. The Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian air defenses shot down two Storm Shadow missiles launched by the Ukrainian side.
On the same day, the representative of the UN secretary-general, Stephane Dujarric, said that the United Nations (UN) recommends that the participants in the conflict in Ukraine take measures to de-escalate the crisis. In his opinion, measures to prevent the Ukrainian conflict should be taken urgently because "everything is going in the wrong direction".
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
