The U.S. aircraft carrier George Washington has arrived in port at Yokosuka base in Japan

The U.S. aircraft carrier "George Washington" arrived in the port of the U.S. Navy base Yokosuka for permanent basing. This was reported by Kyodo agency on November 22.

Yokosuka base is located in the Japanese prefecture of Kanagawa. In Yokosuka, the George Washington will replace the aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan, this will be its second deployment 9.5 years after the first.

It previously arrived at the base port in 2008 and became the first U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier permanently based in Yokosuka. However, in 2015, the George Washington was sent back to the U.S. for repairs and equipment replacement.

The joining of the aircraft carrier "George Washington" to joint military exercises with South Korea and Japan became known on November 13. Reuters reported that the exercises will involve South Korean and Japanese fighter jets, maritime patrol aircraft, will also work out measures of maritime missile defense and cyber defense.

On November 15, the White House press office announced the expansion of trilateral defense cooperation with the Republic of Korea and Japan. It was noted that it will now include annual meetings at the level of heads of military chiefs of staff and ministers.
