Matt Gaetz has withdrawn his candidacy for U.S. attorney general


Republican Matt Gaetz withdrew his candidacy from consideration for the position of attorney general and head of the U.S. Department of Justice. He announced on November 21.
"I had great meetings with Senators and am grateful for their thoughtful feedback and the incredible support of so many. Despite the strong momentum, it is clear that my confirmation would unfairly become a distraction to the important work of [Donald] Trump and Vance's transition team," he wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) social media page.
Gaetz also noted that he is convinced that "Trump will save America" and become "the most successful president in history."
Trump nominated Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz to head the U.S. Department of Justice on Nov. 13. The Florida Republican is an active Trump supporter and one of his staunchest allies.
