Former Russian ambassador urges US and UK to stop escalation in Ukraine

It is time for theUSA and the UK to stop their actions to escalate the Ukrainian conflict. This was stated by former Russian ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov on November 21.

"The good name "Nuttall" <...> is clearly shown that there is no counteraction to this system. It's time for the Americans to stop, it's time for the British to stop as well, to think about how to live on the same planet for us, as we have said many times," he noted on the air of the program "Big Game".

Antonov emphasized that Western countries are trying to impose an arms race on Russia.

"Everything will depend on your (Western countries. - Ed.) actions in Washington, in London, in Paris, how far you are ready to go, whether medium and shorter range missiles will appear on European territory," he added.

Earlier, on November 21, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that neither the United States nor Ukraine were responsible for the escalation, "every step of escalation comes from Russia."

On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Ukraine had used Western long-range weapons against the Russian state. According to him, the regional conflict has acquired elements of a global character. He also announced that the Russian state had tested the Oreshnik missile in response to NATO 's aggressive actions.

Before that, on November 19, the Russian military shot down five ATACMS missiles launched by the AFU in the Bryansk region and damaged another one. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called it a signal that the West wants to escalate the conflict.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to defend Donbass, which began on February 24, 2022. The decision to hold it was taken by the Russian president because of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to the increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
