Kim Jong-un says risk of nuclear war due to US actions

The Korean Peninsula has never faced such a great risk of nuclear conflict. This was stated by Kim Jong-un, Chairman of the State Council of the DPRK, at the opening ceremony of the Defense Development 2024 exhibition of armed equipment on November 21.

According to him, the United States is expanding the military alliance system for the joint use of nuclear weapons in order to contain Pyongyang's power. The North Korean leader indicated that he tried to establish relations with Washington, but it only confirmed the US "hostile policy".

"Through the deployment of huge strategic strike assets and allied forces, the level of military pressure and provocations is extremely increasing. Never before have the belligerents on the Korean Peninsula faced such a dangerous and acute situation as now, which could escalate into the most destructive thermonuclear war," he was quoted as saying by the Voice of Korea radio station .

In this regard, Kim Jong-un called for the development and modernization of the DPRK's weaponry, as well as to continue building up the country's defense capabilities.

"Our Party and government will do everything to develop higher military technology and strengthen military might to protect our glorious homeland, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, through strong national defense," the DPRK leader said.

Earlier on Nov. 18, Kim Jong Un called for full military training in the country. Speaking at a gathering of commanders and political patrols of KPA battalions, the DPRK leader condemned U.S. actions on the Korean Peninsula, which lead to the aggravation of the situation due to the strengthening of military power and the expansion of alliances.

Before that, Kim Ye-jong, deputy department director of the central committee of the Workers' Party of Korea's central committee, said on Nov. 5 that violating the parity of forces on the Korean Peninsula would lead to war. Kim Jong-un's sister recalled the record number of US strategic deployments in the region recently, including the visit of a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.

On August 3, the DPRK Foreign Ministry accused the U.S. of provoking a nuclear crisis and escalating the security situation because of Washington and Seoul's military exercise on nuclear operation simulating a comprehensive nuclear war Iron Mace, which took place from July 30 to August 1 at the U.S. military base in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. The legend of the training was the "use of nuclear weapons" by Pyongyang.
