Military expert explained the strike on the Yuzhmash plant
Military expert Yuriy Knutov told Izvestia on November 21 what goals Russia was pursuing when striking the Yuzhmash plant with a supersonic Oreshnik missile.
"Yuzhmash is an enterprise that has quite serious developments. Employees who once worked there were engaged in the production of the "Satan" missile. So there is a serious material and technical base," Knutov said
He specified that such plants as Yuzhmash have huge underground workshops, and the probability that they are functioning is huge. The expert noted that most likely, the underground workshops produce cruise missiles "Neptun" and operational and technical missiles "Grom-2", which are used for shelling the territory of the Russian Federation.
Knutov also reported that such production formations are virtually impossible to destroy with ordinary missiles due to the high level of protection and the presence of air defense (air defense) means.
On that day, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Ukraine had used Western long-range weapons against the Russian state. According to him, the regional conflict has acquired elements of global character. The head of state also said that one of Russia's newest medium-range missile systems had been tested in combat conditions - a nuclear-free hypersonic ballistic missile called Oreshnik was used.
Footage of the Russian Armed Forces striking the Yuzhmash plant in Dnepropetrovsk with the Oreshnik missile was soon published. The footage shows parts of the missile hitting the facilities, followed by bright flashes.
Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov later said that Russian authorities had sent the US a notification about the use of the Oreshnik half an hour before its launch.
The special operation to protect Donbass, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
