Pistorius revealed plans to nominate Scholz for SPD chancellor

The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) is going to nominate the candidacy of the current head of government Olaf Scholz for the post of Chancellor of Germany. This was stated by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius on November 21.
"Olaf Scholz is a strong chancellor and he is a suitable candidate for the post of chancellor," Tagesschau portal quotes him as saying.
According to Pistorius, Scholz's prudence is of particular importance "in unstable times."
The minister also announced the withdrawal of his nomination for the post.
"I have just informed the leadership of our party that it is not necessary to count on me as a candidate for chancellor," he emphasized.
Earlier, on November 18, Pistorius said that the SPD will decide on the choice of a candidate at the party conference no later than January 11 and named Scholz as the most likely candidate.
Prior to that, November 8, historian, political scientist-Germanist, candidate of historical sciences Eugenia Pimenova said that the most likely contender for the post of Chancellor of Germany to replace Olaf Scholz is the head of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Friedrich Merz.
