Security expert talks about the dangers of phishing in Telegram

Fraudsters are actively evolving as users become more aware, as new means of protection and monitoring appear. This was reported by information security expert Taras Tatarinov on Thursday, November 21, commenting on information about a new scheme of fraudsters in Telegram.
The day before, Alexander Vurasko, the development director of the Solar AURA center for monitoring external digital threats of Solar Group, told Izvestia that fraudsters use different information reasons to convince the victim to go to a phishing page on the web, after which they steal Telegram accounts. For example, a user may receive a message offering to take an online vote, sign a petition or purchase a premium subscription.
Tatarinov emphasized that there is no universal recipe to defend against all existing and future attacks.
"This applies not only to phishing, but also to anti-virus protection, so you just need to adhere to the basic rules of zero trust on the Internet - to think whether this link is really correct, to double-check. Nowadays, not only malicious links are used for phishing, but also accounts are copied, i.e. a digital profile of a particular person is made and a full copy of it is created, on behalf of which fraudulent offers are made. To do this, it is not necessary to hack into a person's account," the expert told Radio 1.
The main rules of safety in the Network - not to hurry and be attentive, to agree with people at a personal meeting about the code word, concluded the expert.
Earlier in the day "Izvestia" wrote that scammers have come up with a new scheme to cheat with photos in Telegram.
The victim only needs to click on a picture sent from an unknown number and money will be deducted from his account, writes "Moscow 24".
On November 17, Evgeny Pankov, project manager of the .RU/.RF domain coordination center, told Izvestia that there has been a steady increase in phishing attacks conducted via messengers, especially Telegram and WhatsApp (owned by Meta, whose activities are banned in Russia). According to him, 2,374 domains imitating Telegram were blocked in Runet in the first 10 months of this year, which is 2.2 times higher than the same period last year. For the second messenger, the number of blocked domains increased more than five times - from 205 to 1,036.
