To design an apartment with low ceilings, it is important to take into account visual techniques that will visually enlarge the space. Fyodor Vasiliev, a construction expert, founder and CEO of Glavnab, told Izvestia about what techniques exist.

"Bulky elements such as massive chandeliers, lambrequins on windows or large wide moldings <...> should be excluded. Any massive details create the effect of cluttered ceiling and make the room visually lower", - explained Vasiliev.

According to the expert, when selecting lighting should take into account the ceiling chandeliers for rooms with lamps directed upwards, or place light accents on the entire surface of the ceiling. In addition, to visually increase the space will be suitable for wall sconces, which will provide even lighting and create the illusion of a higher ceiling.

"LED strips and spots - the optimal solution for highlighting the perimeter and corners of the ceiling," - said the expert.

Vasiliev explained that special attention should be paid to the finish of the low ceiling.

According to him, stretch ceilings "eat" up to 20 cm of height, instead it is better to paint the ceiling with glossy paint, which reflects light and adds depth to the space, and when choosing a color scheme should stop at white, light gray or pastel colors, which will visually lift the ceiling. On the perimeter it is worth using plasterboard structures with a recessed center, which will create a dome effect.

In addition, for finishing materials and textiles, it is better to choose materials with a vertical pattern, and reflective surfaces, such as mirrors on the walls or a floor mirror in the corner, will create the illusion of a large space.

"The use of these solutions in a complex will not only hide the shortcomings of low ceilings, but also to create a cozy, stylish interior, where the space seems higher and lighter," - concluded the expert.

Earlier, on November 18, construction expert, founder and CEO of Glavsnab Fyodor Vasiliev shared his advice with Izvestia on how to choose a warm floor. A water floor connected to a boiler or centralized heating is many times more economical than an electric one. Its operating costs are usually lower than those of electric systems.
