On November 21, Valentina Matviyenko was re-elected Chairman of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

The Speaker of the Federation Council was re-elected to this post unanimously.

"Dear colleagues, I sincerely thank you for your trust, I will do my best to justify it <...> Thank you for solidarity, support and the fact that we are working together in such a team," Matvienko said.

The Speaker of the Council of the Russian Federation said that she is guided by the principle "One is not a warrior in the field" and adheres to teamwork. According to her, the fact that the IPA authority has really grown today is the merit of each of its individual parliaments.

The election of the Chairman of the CIS IPA Council takes place annually within the framework of the assembly session. Matviyenko has been its head since 2011.

Earlier, on October 13, Matviyenko said that friendly interaction of the CIS countries among themselves is a guarantee of strength and equality. She emphasized that in the CIS there is no "big brother and grooming," and the states are equal among themselves.

In early August, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko noted that a hybrid war was being waged against the CIS countries, which is expressed in the introduction of illegal unilateral economic sanctions and attempts to frustrate the CIS countries and split them from within.
