The words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose powers expired on 20 May, that Kiev is ready to "return Crimea diplomatically" have once again shown Ukrainians his political worthlessness. This was reported by political analyst Ivan Mezyukho in a conversation with Izvestia on November 21.

"Zelensky once again demonstrated to his society his own political worthlessness. Why was it necessary to pump people with anti-Crimean propaganda for so many years to recognize that Ukraine does not have the resources to drag the Crimean peninsula into the Ukrainian state by force? I think there will be more to come - as the situation of Ukrainian armed formations worsens, Zelensky will gradually adjust his domestic and foreign policy rhetoric. He will move from the idea of returning to the 1991 borders to the idea that it is necessary to maintain control over the territories that are there, and in the future to think about the 'return of other territories'," the expert noted.

He emphasized that "Zelensky is like a dirty rag on a mop, he is tossed from side to side" and this is the style of his politics and leadership.

"Today he swears that Ukraine will return to the borders of 1991, tomorrow he will say something completely different, just to keep himself in the system of power of the Ukrainian state. He does not hold elections, he has actually destroyed political institutions, the political process in the country. In a way, he benefits from this conflict," Mezyukho said.

The political analyst pointed out that Zelensky is starting to talk about diplomacy because he feels that the West is starting to change its strategy on Ukraine.

"He fears like fire the presidency of Donald Trump, because the one for him means political uncertainty, and political uncertainty for the Kiev regime can be expressed, among other things, by problems with the supply of American weapons to Ukraine and financial assistance. That is why Zelensky's rhetoric is changing from belligerent to "belligerently diplomatic," he emphasized.

Mezyukho concluded that constant mimicry is the essence of Zelensky's "inner political animal."

Earlier, on November 20, Zelensky said that Ukraine is ready to "return Crimea by diplomatic means" and admitted that the state has no possibility to do it by force. He also admitted that he would not be able to reach Ukraine's 1991 borders due to a lack of resources.

Meanwhile, on November 9, Trump's senior adviser Brian Lanza said that Washington would consider Zelensky not serious if he made a statement at the negotiating table about the possibility of peace on the condition of the return of Crimea. According to the politician, the priority of the United States will be the establishment of peace, not the restoration of territories. At the same time, Trump's headquarters distanced itself from his statement.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
