Serial foreign car thief detained in Kaluga

A man suspected of committing serial theft of foreign cars was detained in Kaluga. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Interior Ministry on November 21.

According to the agency, the kidnapper turned out to be a 27-year-old resident of Kaluga. The man at night came to parking lots, opened cars with a special device, stole and left them not far from the neighborhood in which he lived. After that he placed ads on the Internet and sold them to citizens who did not suspect anything.

At the moment it is known about five similar crimes, which were committed from 2022 to 2024. The damage amounted to more than 5 million rubles. Four cars were returned by the police to the owners.

On all facts of thefts were initiated cases under parts 3 and 4 of article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Theft"). The suspect was taken into custody. The investigation continues.

Earlier, on November 13, law enforcement agencies detained a man who stole a car with a child on Sakhalin. The incident occurred in the evening of November 10. The car was parked outside the house, the parents left their son in the cabin, so as "not to drag in the cold". The intruders stole the car and threw the child out when they stopped at the corner. The child is now with his parents. The car was later found wrecked in a ditch in the city center.
