- Experts assessed the interest of Russians in equipping smart homes with new devices

The number of smart home devices connected to MegaFon's network has more than doubled over the past three years. This was reported in the company, noting that they observe the growing interest of Russians in technologies that contribute to the growth of comfort and safety of housing.
Corresponding estimates specialists of the digital operator made based on the analysis of demand for smart gadgets, as well as the study of data on the dynamics of traffic consumption. Thus, the connection of smart devices to the operator's network by SIM card for 10 months of this year increased by 23% relative to the figures of 2023, and the total growth of traffic over the past two years amounted to 126%.
Megafon also notes an increase in the amount of traffic consumed by each device. If a year earlier one smart SIM card had an average of 5 Gbytes, from January to October 2024 this figure reached 8 Gbytes and continues to grow. Experts explain this trend by the growing demand for smart cameras and security systems that work with large amounts of data.
As a head device in smart homes, Russians most often use smartphones, as well as smart speakers, which, according to the combined retail network of Megafon and Yota, account for 84% of sales of the total number of smart home gadgets. Among other categories of devices, products for comfort and security are leading: sockets, light bulbs, video cameras and various sensors.
The largest number of smart home owners is in the 35-44 age category, accounting for 45% of the total. Smart devices are more often controlled by men (63% of subscribers).
As Andrey Egorov, Director of B2C Products Department, predicts, the demand for smart home devices will continue to grow along with the need for stable communication for them.
