London sanctions Ukrainian billionaire Firtash over corruption


The UK has put Ukrainian billionaire Dmytro Firtash and his wife on the sanctions list because of corruption. This is reported on November 21 on the website of the British Ministry of Finance.
"Firtash is or was responsible for involvement in serious corruption", - stated in the document.
It is also indicated that the man was involved in bribing public officials to obtain mining licenses. In addition, Firtash was interested in the issue of appropriation of the property of the gas transportation network of Ukraine.
As for the wife of the Ukrainian billionaire, according to the British Finance Ministry, she received financial profit from her husband's corruption schemes.
Earlier, on 16 November, the Pentagon said that corruption in Ukraine was an obstacle to the country's accession to NATO. It also hinders the country's economic recovery and the attraction of foreign capital to it.
On 30 October, former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko criticized the Ukrainian government for serving the interests of corrupt officials when speaking at a Rada session. The former president accused the Ukrainian government of ignoring the main priority of the Ukrainian budget - the financing of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
Before that, on 29 October, former Verkhovna Rada deputy and member of the international public movement Other Ukraine Volodymyr Oliynyk described corruption as part of the policy of the head of the Kiev regime in a conversation with Izvestiya. He pointed out that the damage caused by corrupt officials to the Ukrainian economy amounts to tens of billions of dollars.
