AFU fighters damaged a 19th century church in Kursk region during shelling

A late 19th century church in Kursk Region was seriously damaged during an attack by Ukrainian militants in mid-November. This was reported in the Investigative Committee of Russia on November 21.

"Militants of armed formations of Ukraine, other Ukrainian paramilitary groups and members of mercenary formations with the use of artillery systems, mortars and multiple rocket launchers in the village of Ulanok, Sujansky district, Kursk region shelled the object of cultural heritage "Ensemble of the Church of the Nativity of Christ." As a result <...> the object of cultural heritage was damaged and partially destroyed", - stated in the Telegram-channel of the department.

A criminal case has been opened under paragraphs "a", "c" of part 2 of article 205 ("Terrorist act") and part 1 of article 243 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Destruction or damage to objects of cultural heritage"). Those involved in the crime will be identified and brought to justice.

Earlier, on October 24, Father Alexander, rector of the church of the icon of the Mother of God "Znamenie" in the village of Borki, Sujansky district, said that the Ukrainian militants had booby-trapped the entrance doors of the church during the retreat. The building also suffered significant damage - the bell tower, roof, doors and entrance group were damaged.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk Region on August 6. The situation in the region is recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The operation to destroy the AFU continues.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
