On Friday, November 22, the Orthodox Church commemorates Blessed Matrona of Moscow. While the healer was still alive, people prayed to Matrona and asked for her help, and pilgrims were always at her house. And today on the holiday thousands of believers from all over Russia and from other countries come to worship the relics of the saint. "Izvestia" tells where are the relics of Matron of Moscow and how to get to them, and also publishes the schedule of the holiday service.

Where are the relics of Matron of Moscow

Matrona was born in the small village of Sebino, Tula province. In her childhood years, the gift of foresight and healing was revealed to her. Already at the age of eight she began to receive people and could predict the future. Later Matrona moved to Moscow. Then the nickname Matrona of Moscow was fixed for her.

After her death, her body was buried in the Danilovsky cemetery, where it rested for almost half a century. In the late 1990s, Patriarch Alexy II gave his blessing for the transfer of Matrona's relics. Since then they have been located on the territory of the Pokrovsky Nunnery, a historical monastery in the center of the capital, founded back in the XVII century.

The monastery also houses a miracle-working icon of Matrona of Moscow. The image was painted in 1999 and is considered one of the most revered shrines in Orthodoxy.
