Three CEOs of firms convicted for fraud with Russian Defense Ministry contracts

Three CEOs of commercial organizations, who committed embezzlement of budget funds worth more than 300 million rubles during the execution of the state defense order of the Russian Defense Ministry, have been sentenced in Moscow. This was reported by the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation on November 21.

The convicted are Vyacheslav Shustov, Konstantin Savostyanov and Sergei Belov. They were found guilty of fraud on a large scale.

It is established that the listed executives in 2018-2021 carried out a multimillion-dollar embezzlement, acting as part of an organized group on behalf of their organizations, overestimating the value of the subject of contracts and making forgery of documents.

"The court verdict sentenced Savostyanov to a prison sentence of nine years, and Shustov and Belov to six years each. They will serve the punishment in a penal colony of general regime," - stated in the Telegram-channel of the Department.

The property of the accused in the amount of more than 50 million rubles (cash, real estate and cars), the court turned to the state income.

Prior to that, on November 13, the former head of division of the Department of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation to ensure the state defense order Evgeny Makeev was sentenced to four years of probation in the case of large-scale bribery in the performance of the state defense order. The defendant was found guilty under paragraph "c", part 5, article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

It was established that in 2020 the head of the department of the Defense Ministry Vladimir Verteletsky and his subordinate Makeev received a bribe from the director of the Cheboksary plant "Metallist" Sergey Chervyakov in the amount of more than 1.8 million rubles for the acceptance of work of inadequate quality. The crime caused damage to the state in the amount of more than Br73 million. May 23, Verteletsky was charged with abuse of power in the implementation of the state defense order. He is under arrest and continues to familiarize himself with the case materials.
