Zakharova called Borrell's words about Israel an admission of EU policy error

The head of the European Union's (EU) diplomatic service, Josep Borrel, saying that the Western world order is hanging by a thread because of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, is literally recognizing the fallacy of the EU's policy in the Middle East. This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on November 21 when answering Izvestia's question.
Josep Borrel said on November 15 that the world order is "hanging by a thread" because of Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip. According to him, "disregard for international humanitarian law on all sides" undermines the basis on which the EU was built.
"We believe that this statement is literally an admission, yes, partial, incomplete, not outright, but forced, of the fallacy of the European Union's policy in the Middle East in the spirit of a rules-based world order. We have repeatedly pointed out the double standards applied by the EU in assessing the events in the region, particularly in the Gaza Strip," Zakharova said.
She added that under the pretext of Ukraine's right to self-defense, Brussels continues to justify terrorist attacks, murders, kidnappings and sexual violence against women committed by the Kiev regime's militants.
Also on November 15, Borrell said that the EU would consider suspending political dialog with Israel. EU countries did not support the proposal to suspend dialog with Israel because of the events in the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, on November 11, the Arab League (LAS) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) demanded that the UN Security Council (UNSC) impose sanctions on Israel over its actions in Gaza and the rejection of agreements reached by Egypt and Qatar in an attempt to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Prior to that, on November 10, Qatar suspended its mediation in the Gaza talks.
The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected the territory of Israel to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
