Zakharova pointed to NATO's desire to turn Moldova into a supply base for the AFU

NATO is trying to turn Moldova into a logistical base for supplying the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This statement was made by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, on 21 November.
She noted that the majority of Moldovans oppose rapprochement with NATO, but the country's leadership "continues to pull the republic closer to the alliance."
"In practice, as political analysts point out, this means a forced transformation of the country into a logistical base for supplying the AFU," Zakharova said at the briefing.
In addition, she added that the media had reported on the European Union's (EU) plans to allocate more than €30 million as part of the "Corridors of Solidarity" project to unload the existing communication routes with Ukraine. According to her, this is being done not to improve the security situation, but to continue escalating the situation in the region.
Zakharova also stressed that the Moldovan population was concerned about the publication on the government's website of a draft decree "on the exchange of human organs and cells intended for transplantation". In this context, she recalled that Moldova joined the European organ database Eurotransplant in 2022. She said that against this background, political analysts, journalists and public figures draw parallels with Ukraine.
Earlier, on November 16, Russian Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Ozerov said that foreign forces, including NATO, are seeking to drag Moldova into the anti-Russian military bloc. He noted that a significant part of the population understands the existing risks to its security, but the policy of dragging the country into the military bloc fundamentally contradicts the interests of the Moldovan people.
In August this year, Moldovan political analyst Alexander Corinenko said that the Western countries intend to use Moldova in their own interests.
According to him, the West is trying to repeat the Ukrainian scenario in Moldova and create an anti-Russian project out of the post-Soviet republic, which obeys Brussels unconditionally. Korinenko added that the European Union (EU) sees Moldova as an object of international relations and invests huge funds in the republic to keep it as a pro-European buffer in the region.
