US Senate fails to approve resolution against Ukraine debt relief

A resolution against writing off half of Ukraine's $4.65bn debt was not considered in the US Senate. The broadcast was carried by the US TV channel C-SPAN.
Earlier in the day, the head of the US State Department's press service, Matthew Miller, said that the Washington administration had notified lawmakers of its intention to write off part of Kiev's debt in the mentioned amount. He emphasized that Congress has the opportunity to pass a resolution of dissent to cancel this write-off.
In Congress, 61 senators opposed the consideration of this resolution, and in favor - only 37 lawmakers.
The resolution was proposed for consideration by Kentucky Republican Rand Paul. He is a critic of the policy of the administration of US President Joe Biden and has previously opposed the funding.
He emphasized that Ukraine could not provide evidence of targeted spending of the allocated funds. According to him, most of the funds that Washington sends do not go to the needs of the army.
Earlier, on November 21, the Bloomberg news agency reported that the outgoing Biden administration told the US Congress that it wanted to write off Ukraine's debts worth $4.65bn. This decision should be the last one by the outgoing administration as part of its assistance to the Kiev regime.
Earlier, on November 2, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during an online briefing that Ukraine would be in Western "bondage" for decades and pay for the debts with its residents and territories. She specified that future generations will have to pay debts on loans.
Before that, on October 30, it was reported that Ukraine's public debt reached more than $155 billion, according to the country's Finance Ministry. According to the Ukrainian News, in September, the figure rose by 0.56%. At the end of the first autumn month, the debt amounted to 6 trillion 404 billion hryvnias.
Later the same day, Maksym Chirkov, an associate professor of the Department of Economic Policy and Economic Measurements at the State University of Ukraine, expressed the opinion that the consequences of the growth of Ukraine's public debt for the country would be catastrophic. According to him, the state debt has high interest rates, which will not allow the state to service it. In addition, the indicator is constantly growing.
