The outgoing administration of U.S . President Joe Biden has told the U.S. Congress that it wants to write off Ukraine 's debts to the tune of $4.65 billion, Bloomberg reported on November 21.

"The White House will cancel half of the $9 billion loan provided to Ukraine as part of an additional package of $60 billion, which was approved in April," the publication said.

It is also noted that this decision will be the last by the outgoing administration as part of aid to the Kiev regime. Debt forgiveness should "help Ukraine win." This will be in the "national interests of the US, EU, G7 and NATO".

Earlier, on November 2, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during an online briefing that Ukraine would be in Western "bondage" for decades and pay for the debt with its residents and territories. She specified that future generations will have to pay debts on loans.

Before that, on October 30, it was reported that Ukraine's public debt reached more than $155 billion, according to the country's Finance Ministry. According to the Ukrainian News, in September, the figure increased by 0.56%. At the end of the first autumn month, the debt amounted to 6404 billion hryvnias.

Later the same day, Maksym Chirkov, an associate professor of the Department of Economic Policy and Economic Measurements at the State University of Ukraine, expressed the opinion that the consequences of the growth of Ukraine's public debt for the country would be catastrophic. According to him, the state debt has high interest rates, which will not allow the state to service it. In addition, the indicator is constantly growing.
