Patriotism is made up of love for both the homeland and the family. Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin, said on November 20.

"Patriotism is love for the Motherland, which consists of love for one's family, for one's home, for one's work, for one's relatives, respect for one's elders. All this together is patriotism," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

In October, Russian President Vladimir Putin urged to conduct patriotic education of schoolchildren "lucidly, but without excesses." He also emphasized that parents should explain and instill such basic things in their children at an early age.
