Pentagon admits exchange of nuclear strikes while maintaining a reserve of weapons

TheUnited States allows such an exchange of nuclear strikes, in which the country will retain a reserve of strategic weapons for further leadership on the world stage. This was stated by a representative of the Pentagon's Strategic Command, Rear Admiral Thomas Buchanan, at an event at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington. CSIS activities are recognized by the Justice Ministry as undesirable in Russia.
"We need to have backup capacity. You're not going to spend all your resources to win, right? Because then you will have nothing to contain," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
Earlier, on November 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved an updated Russian nuclear doctrine . Among the grounds for the use of such weapons by Russia in the document is a response to the use of nuclear or other weapons of mass destruction against the country and its allies. In addition, Russia may launch a nuclear strike if an attack threatening territorial integrity is launched against it or Belarus.
Deputy Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh, in turn, noted that the U.S. is not in a state of conflict with Russia over changes in nuclear weapons policy. According to her, changes in the nuclear doctrine of the Russian Federation do not affect the relations of states.
Also, commenting on the adoption of the document, the US State Department said that Washington does not plan to react to the changes. At the same time, they asserted that the United States and NATO "do not pose any threat to Russia."
Earlier, on September 25, Putin said it was necessary to adapt the foundations of state policy in the field of nuclear deterrence to modern realities. At that time, he said that the Defense Ministry, Foreign Ministry and Security Council, after analysis, proposed a number of changes to more clearly fix the conditions for Russia's transition to the use of nuclear weapons.
The next day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov pointed out that the update of Russia's nuclear doctrine should be considered a certain signal to unfriendly countries.
