13 Moscow students will go to Antarctica

13 schoolchildren and college students will go to the Moscow Youth Antarctic Expedition. This was reported on Wednesday, November 20, by the Deputy Mayor of the capital on social development issues Anastasia Rakova.
According to her, the students themselves showed this initiative. The expedition included eight schoolchildren and five college students.
"This is a unique opportunity not only to see Antarctica, but also to contribute to scientific research, which will help to better understand the ecosystem of this amazing continent", - Rakova's words are quoted by the agency of city news "Moscow".
Participants of the expedition will be divided into two squads. Schoolchildren will conduct scientific research on the assignment of Russian research institutes: they will study the state of snow and ice for pollution, observe animals near the station "Progress" and study the state of the atmosphere. The students will have to ensure the expedition's vital activity: monitor the health of the participants, be responsible for communications, prepare food and take care of the mobile living module.
All the guys will participate in the filming of the expedition: they will have to keep a constant video broadcast from the scene, writes NSN.
The selection of participants in the expedition consisted of five tests. The journey will begin on November 26 and will last until December 14. The entire expedition will be led by the director of the center of additional education "Laboratory of Travel" Commander of the Order of Courage Matvey Shparo and the head of research expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctic candidate of biological sciences Ivan Smirnov, reports IA Regnum.
In October, researcher and head of the laboratory of the V.L. Komarov Botanical Institute Mikhail Andreev said that the area covered with greenery has significantly increased in Antarctica: both mosses and higher plants, 360.ru reported.
In August, Russian scientists recorded a new temperature record at the Vostok station in Central Antarctica. On August 6, 2024, the thermometer showed -34.2 degrees. And on August 7, 2024 at Vostok station it got cold to -48.8 degrees.
