Alexander Sordo, writer and compiler of the collection "Your Personal Fears", told why people like to read scary stories.
In a conversation with RuNews24.Ru on November 19, Sordo explained that in everyday routine a person feels constant pressure and stress accumulates. When watching or reading horror stories, there is a surge of cortisol and adrenaline, which allows one to "live" the stress, run it through and let it go.
"It's good for the psyche to experience controlled stress. It's like tempering with cold water," the writer stated.
According to him, over the past 10-15 years, a pleiad of domestic horror authors has formed. Thus, he advised horror fans to read the works of such authors as Dmitry Kostyukevich, Alexander Podolsky, Alexander Matyukhin, Oleg Kozhin, Anatoly Umansky, Vladislav Zhenevsky, Dmitry Tikhonov. Among the films of the relevant genre, Sordo named "Silence of the Lambs" and the lesser-known sequel "Hannibal".
In September, clinical psychologist Ekaterina Klimenko explained why people like watching horror movies. According to her, horror movies allow a person to experience strong emotions in a safe environment.
