The Israeli authorities realize that the United States currently has no leadership capable of stopping them. This was reported on November 20 by American journalist Seymour Hersh in his article published on the Substack platform.

He pointed out that the Israeli leadership is probably preparing to annex the West Bank of the Jordan River in the next two weeks in the hope that this step will put an end to any talk of a two-state solution to the conflict and could persuade representatives of the Arab world to reconsider financing the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

"They (Israeli authorities. - Ed.) feel that at the moment there is no leadership in the United States that can stop them," the journalist wrote.

Hersh also noted that life for the 2 million Palestinians in Gaza is getting harder and bleaker every day due to lack of food and water, and humanitarian aid shipments from the United Nations (UN) are being targeted by Israeli military forces.

"Thus, the Israelis are not following the logic of war. They follow the logic of genocide. And when we understand this, we can also understand why their bombings are happening in this way," the journalist summarized.

Earlier in the day it became known that the US used its veto power in the UN Security Council (UNSC) and blocked a new draft Middle East resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. According to Robert Wood, US Deputy Assistant U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Washington believes that the adoption of this resolution "would send a dangerous signal to Hamas that they don't need to return to the negotiating table."

Alexei Mukhin, director of the Center for Political Information, told Izvestia on October 5 that Israel regards the United States as a "cash cow" because of the United States' political problems. According to him, Democratic and Republican presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump have "entered a political wedge," making the chances of influencing Israel much less likely.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected the territory of Israel to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
