Poll shows more than half of Ukrainians would rather make peace with Russia

A poll has shown that 52 percent of Ukrainians are in favor of concluding a peace treaty with Russia in the near future. This was reported on November 19 by the sociological company Gallup, having conducted a survey among the population of Ukraine.
"52% of Ukrainians would like their country to negotiate an end to the conflict as soon as possible. <...> 38% believe that their country should continue to fight," - stated in the material on the company's website.
It is noted that at the beginning of the conflict, 73% of respondents were in favor of the country "fighting until victory". In 2023, this figure fell to 63%, respectively, 27% were in favor of negotiated peace.
The portal specifies that people are tired of the ongoing conflict and the future of the country remains unclear.
"Russia has been carrying out military offensives on the front line in recent months, despite the invasion of Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region. "President Vladimir Zelensky 's [whose term expired on May 20] 'victory plan' to end the conflict, which includes joining NATO and using Western long-range missiles against Russian territory, also drew mixed reactions from Western allies when it was unveiled last month," the report said.
Earlier in the day, a former aide to current US President Joe Biden, writer and publicist Tara Reid said that the current US administration wants to achieve an escalation of the conflict in Ukraine. She expressed hope that the elected head of the United States, Donald Trump, before his inauguration, is already negotiating the settlement of the conflict "behind the scenes", noting that he promised to bring peace. Reid added, however, that there will be a very dangerous moment in history until January 20, when Trump actually takes power.
Prior to that, Politico reported on Nov. 15 that the U.S. had warned Ukrainian authorities that if they agreed to settle the conflict with Russia on Trump's terms, Kiev would have to make significant territorial concessions. This could be part of the president-elect's peace plan. In turn, former Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard said that Trump's goal is to prevent World War III.
On November 9, Colonel Douglas McGregor, a former advisor to the Pentagon chief, said that the Kiev regime would come to an end if the West stopped supplies.
The West has stepped up military and financial support for Kiev amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
