Matvienko called for the formation of an affordable rental housing market in Russia

In Russia it is necessary to implement a set of measures to form the market of affordable rental housing. This was stated by the Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko on November 20 within the government hour with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin at the meeting of the upper house of the Russian parliament.

The Speaker of the Council of the Federation Council said that the construction industry in the country needs point support measures.

"We need a set of measures to develop rental housing. All the same, now, as senators many inform, very increased rental housing for people. Understandably, they are afraid of a drop in the rate of housing construction, rising prices and so on. In general, we need to develop rental housing more actively in the country - colleagues, this is international practice. Here we are not doing enough," Matvienko pointed out.

She also noted that the reduction of construction time was influenced by the removal of significant bureaucratic barriers. It is necessary to continue to create more favorable conditions for the development of the construction industry and to prevent risks that may appear, Matvienko said, addressing Khusnullin.

On the eve, November 19, "Izvestia" got acquainted with the results of a study of online housing reservation service "Sutno.ru", according to which in Russia during the New Year holidays demand for house rentals for the year increased by 40%.

Earlier, November 7, it was reported that in Russia the cost of renting housing in October compared to September 2024 decreased by 6% and amounted to 33 thousand rubles on average in the country. This is stated in the results of the research platform "Avito Real Estate". The most noticeable decrease in prices for long-term rental housing is observed in Samara - by 14%, in Sochi and Kaluga - by 13% each, in Stavropol - by 11%, in Tyumen - by 10%, in Tomsk and Tula - by 9%.
