Mishustin called for scaling ERA-GLONASS to other modes of transportation

Russia needs sovereignty in the field of navigation, which requires scaling the state information system "ERA-GLONASS" to other modes of transportation, said Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin at the exhibition "Transport of Russia".

"It is very important to have sovereignty in such industries as, navigation. The ERA-GLONASS system was initially a point solution and should be scaled to other types of both transportation and for, in fact, all sorts of applications in the national economy. I want to wish you good luck and success, and it is absolutely necessary to look at the integration of all state programs, federal projects, national projects related in one way or another to the use of navigation systems - this is the economy of data, and a number of other programs that you know about," - said Mishustin after the report of Director General of JSC "GLONASS" Alexei Raikevich on the development of Russia's first new generation mobile satellite communications.

Raikevich also told the Prime Minister about the application of ERA-GLONASS to monitor all forestry equipment, and presented samples of a mobile satellite communication terminal and a hybrid tracker for transportation.

"Today about 11.8 million vehicles are connected to the platform. Thanks to the transmission of an emergency signal to the emergency services in seconds, which includes precise satellite coordinates, the system doubles the speed of assistance. The system saves thousands of lives every year. In addition to emergency notification, it performs real-time monitoring of the transportation complex, including passenger transport, dangerous goods, small aviation and ambulances," Raikevich said.

The head of GLONASS also reported on the development and implementation of a personal satellite communication system operating via Russian geostationary satellites.

"Its introduction will allow to solve the problem of import substitution, because until now the market of mobile satellite communication was occupied by foreign operators," Raikevich emphasized.
