St. Petersburg will open the first section of the SHMSD by the end of the year

In St. Petersburg by the end of 2024 it is planned to open the first section of the Shirotnaya highway of high-speed traffic (SHMSD). This was reported by the press service of the Construction Committee on Wednesday, November 20.

The section of the highway, realized at the first stage of construction, runs from the Vitebsk junction of the WHSD to Vitebsk Avenue. It includes 2.6 km of overpasses, as well as two major interchanges.

According to TV channel "78", the second stage will include a new bridge across the Neva, its construction will begin in 2024.

SHMSD is a new toll highway. It is supposed to improve communications between the western and eastern districts of the Northern Capital. For the most part it will represent overpasses with three-lane traffic in both directions.

Earlier it was reported that from October 28 on the sections of federal highways M-11 "Neva" and M-4 "Don" will operate winter speed mode of traffic. The measure will help to ensure traffic safety in unfavorable weather conditions.
