An agreement was signed for the construction of three phases of the Shirotnaya highway in St. Petersburg

A concession agreement for the construction and operation of the second and fourth phases of the Shirotnaya Skorostnoi Magistralnaya Dvizhodstvo (ShMSD) in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region was signed as part of the Transport of Russia International Forum and Exhibition taking place in Moscow. The document was signed by Governor Alexander Beglov and VTB President Andrei Kostin.

According to the head of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov, now "an important step has been made towards the realization of a key stage in the development of our transport infrastructure."

"The highway will become the third link in the city's expressway system and part of the renewed transportation corridor to Karelia, Murmansk, Arkhangelsk," he emphasized.

The Governor also noted that the project, which is being realized in the format of public-private partnership, is an example of "a good combination of all efforts - financial, administrative, engineering".

In turn, the head of VTB said that investments in the first stage of the highway to Vitebsk interchange amounted to 43 billion rubles. Construction of three new stages of the SHMSD will begin next year, Kostin added.

The cost of construction of the three stages of the highway will amount to about 241 billion rubles. The whole project is planned to be completed in 2031, the total length of the SHMSD will be more than 32 kilometers.

The SHMSD starts from the Western High-Speed Diameter, from where it will pass through the territory of five districts of St. Petersburg to the junction with the Ring Road and further to the intersection with the Murmansk Highway. The estimated speed of traffic on the highway will be 120 km/h.
