The number of cars with hidden license plates has decreased on toll roads

In the first nine months of 2024, about 8% of cars with hidden license plates or without them at all were recorded on the roads with the "Free Flow" system (M-12 and the Central Ring Road). In October-November this figure decreased to 5%. This was reported by the head of the state company "Avtodor" Vyacheslav Petushenko on the sidelines of the capital "Transport Week", reports "Kommersant" on November 20.

According to Petushenko, this is the result of recent amendments to the CAO, which toughen penalties for drivers driving cars with hidden license plates. Previously, drivers who use folding frames (hiding the license plate number when passing under the camera) were fined 5 thousand rubles or deprived of their license for a maximum of three months. Now they can be deprived of their license for a period of 1 to 1.5 years, also the police have been given the opportunity to confiscate the devices.

"Drivers must be taught to comply with the law, because hiding license plates can also lead to accidents. Such drivers, as a rule, not only do not pay, but also violate the speed limit," - said Petushenko.

The head of Avtodor said that employees of the state company see cars with hidden license plates on cameras and transmit the images to traffic police, who stop drivers at exits. It also allows to detect violations involving more serious crimes - theft of vehicles and transportation of prohibited goods.

November 18, it was reported that the state company "Avtodor" for the first time in Russia in the test mode mounted an innovative roller fence. It was installed at the intersection of the Central Ring Road and the highway M-1 "Belarus" at exits and turns. The fence is designed for a significant impact force, equivalent to the impact of a bus weighing 15 tons at a speed of 74 km/h.

On September 10, the head of Avtodor Vyacheslav Petushenko said that the state company plans to create a database of users and vehicles that have traveled on toll roads to combat non-payers.
