The government will protect AvtoVAZ from the pressure of foreign car imports

The government is going to protect AvtoVAZ and other domestic manufacturers from pressure from imported foreign cars. This was told by the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Anton Alikhanov at a meeting of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, reports the correspondent of "Izvestia" on November 20.
"It is necessary to protect our manufacturers from the pressure of imports in passenger car segments. This is especially true for the B, B+ segment, traditional segments of AvtoVAZ and those segments they plan to enter. We have our own developments. We will do it through regulatory, customs and tariff measures," Alikhanov said.
He noted that indexation of utilization fee on October 1 and further rate increases (the nearest one will take place on January 1, 2025) creates significant opportunities for the development of the Russian car industry.
At the end of 2024, AvtoVAZ plans to produce more than 520 thousand cars, this result will be the best for the company over the past 15 years. Annual production volumes of AvtoVAZ in the next six years can be increased up to 700 thousand cars per year, he noted.
On the eve of the head of AvtoVAZ Maxim Sokolov said that if the key rate continues to grow, the sales of new cars in Russia in 2025 may decline in relation to 2024 by about 30%.
On November 15, the press service of AvtoVAZ reported that the company's production plan for 2025 assumes the production of 500 thousand cars. The company's investment program for next year will exceed 45 billion rubles.
