Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil Pinto said on November 20 that U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken made a fool of himself with his words about recognizing former Bolivarian presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzalez.

Blinken expressed his opinion that Gonzalez "is the elected president" of Venezuela on the previous day on the social network X (former Twitter). He also added that democracy requires respecting the will of the voters.

"The popular saying goes, 'the only place you don't come back from is a place of ridicule'". But Blinken, a recognized enemy of Venezuela, is stubbornly determined to do it again, now with Guaidó 2.0, backed by fascists and terrorists subject to the crackpot policies of the United States," Pinto commented in his Telegram channel.

The minister recommended that Blinken, in his last days in office as part of the outgoing US administration, reflect on his failures and get rid of "imperial and colonial complexes."

In addition, he suggested that the Secretary of State write a memoir about how he was forced to "swallow the dust of defeat" in Venezuela, "Gazeta.Ru" specified.

According to Pinto, Blinken "sank with his puppets" in an attempt to overthrow Venezuelan democracy.

The presidential election in Venezuela was held on July 28, Nicolas Maduro won. Speaking to supporters outside the presidential palace, the politician said his success was a "triumph of peace and stability" and showed that Venezuela's electoral system was "transparent."

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow welcomed the successful holding of the popular will in Venezuela and reaffirmed the mood for further cooperation between the countries. Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Maduro on his victory.

Some countries refused to recognize the results of the vote in Venezuela. Thus, the U.S. authorities officially recognized the victory of the opposition candidate Gonzalez, while the governments of Argentina, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Ecuador demanded a "full review of the results."

In September, the U.S. Justice Department arrested Maduro's plane in the Dominican Republic, which was sharply condemned in Venezuela. In turn, Argentina requested an arrest warrant for Maduro from the International Criminal Court (ICC) and put him on an international wanted list. In the same month, the European Parliament called for Maduro 's arrest and for Gonzalez to be recognized as president.
