A new collection of Gogol's works in translation was presented in Belgrade

The Russian House in Belgrade hosted the presentation of a new edition of the collection of works by Russian writer Nikolai Gogol in Serbian. Images of the event are at the disposal of Izvestia.

"Serbia is rediscovering Gogol's prose. Today in the Russian House was presented a new, unique edition of the collection of Gogol's works," - said journalist Sergei Petrov.

He noted that the new collection includes spiritual prose of the Russian classic, which was translated into Serbian for the first time.

"There is great interest among ourselves and among readers in Serbia too - and that pleases us. Good reviews and great popularity these books have," said Ivan Jeremevic, representative of the publishing house Nemen.

The representative added that readers' interest in Russian culture is primarily caused by Orthodoxy. Gogol is appreciated not only as a great writer, but also as a great "Orthodox thinker". He was one of the first to realize that 'Russian statehood destroys the empire of lies.

' He understood this and so he began to write spiritual prose. Then Theophan Zatvornik, Dostoevsky, John of Kronstadt, Ignatius Bryanchaninov - holy men - started writing about it," said translator Ranko Gojkovic.

Earlier, on November 10, the premiere of the play "The Master and Margarita" based on the novel by Mikhail Bulgakov took place at the People's Theater of Serbia in Belgrade. The play, directed by Andras Urban, caused quite a stir among the residents and guests of the Serbian capital. According to the theater managers, tickets for the production were sold out for two months in advance.
