The hotline between Russia and the United States, created after the Cuban Missile Crisis, is now not used. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on November 20.

"We have between the two presidents, Russia and the United States, a special secure line for communication. Moreover, even for video communication," he noted in a conversation with TASS.

However, Peskov clarified that no talks are currently being held on this line either.

The Moscow-Washington hotline began operating on August 30, 1963 and was actively used during the Cold War for emergencies, but in recent years the presidents of the countries have communicated by direct phone in case of need.

Earlier, on October 8, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said that Russia and NATO have hotlines and there is still a dialogue at the level of Russian and U.S. defense ministers, but these channels are intended for emergencies.
