A mortar crew of paratroopers of the Dnipro group of troops has destroyed an observation post of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the right bank of the Dnieper River in Zaporizhzhya Region near Energodar. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on November 20.

Russian scouts with the help of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were able to detect the point of the AFU, from where the militants were adjusting their artillery and launching reconnaissance UAVs towards our side of the river, and transmit its exact coordinates to the paratroopers.

To destroy the enemy point, the fighters of the Dnepr group of troops used a 120-millimeter mortar. They took up a firing position in a few minutes and hit the enemy point with rapid fire.

After the combat work was completed, the calculation promptly camouflaged and left the firing position. The UAV calculation confirmed that the enemy observation post had been destroyed.

Airborne troops' mortar crews fire to suppress firing positions and control points and to destroy concealed enemy personnel. During the fulfillment of tasks, mortar calculations try to get as close to the target as possible to guarantee hitting it.

"These are islands, they are completely covered by bushes. But it is hard for the equipment to pass through, because constantly the water rises and erodes this part of the islands. So it will be very difficult for both equipment and personnel to move through them. Everything is mined there in large quantities", - said the commander of the airborne assault platoon with the call sign Nabat.

Earlier, on November 18, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that servicemen of the "Dnepr" group of troops with the help of 122-millimeter towed howitzers D-30 destroyed an AFU mortar in the Kakhovsky direction.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
