German customs officers in Stuttgart confiscated expensive clothes and bags worth €114,000 from two women who were traveling to Russia via Turkey because of suspicion of violating sanctions. This was reported on November 19 by Sudwest presse.

It is noted that the incident occurred in early November. Customs officials inspected two women aged 25 and 64 years old and found in their luggage things expensive brands. Travelers were suspected of violating sanctions.

After the customs investigation, it became known that the women had already sent seven parcels to Russia before the incident, one of which was confiscated in Leipzig. Inside were goods worth €12 thousand. A criminal case was opened against the women on suspicion of violating the law on foreign trade.

Earlier, November 1, Deputy Head of the Financial Intelligence Service (FID) Paulis Ilienkov stated that Riga had frozen the assets of 147 persons, subject to sanctions against Russia and Belarus, with a total value of more than €80 million. He specified that 102 real estate objects and 80 vehicles, which directly or indirectly belong to the group of persons, were frozen. Only the amount of frozen funds in bank accounts amounted to €53.3 million.

Western countries increased sanctions pressure on Russia after the start of the special operation to protect civilians in Donbass, which was announced on February 24, 2022. Moscow is taking retaliatory steps.
