Gastroenterologist named the most harmful New Year's dishes

During the New Year holidays, people often abuse food and give preference to traditional holiday treats, many of which are not at all healthy. Natalia Kharchenko, candidate of medical sciences, gastroenterologist at the European Medical Center (EMC), told Izvestia on November 24 about how to avoid harmful recipes and make New Year's dishes more useful.
"Olivier, mimosa, herring under a fur coat salads prepared according to the classic recipe contain too much fat and salt, and meat and cheese cuts are "rich" in preservatives, dyes and flavor enhancers," the expert noted.
According to the expert, carbonated sweet drinks due to sugar can sharply increase blood glucose levels, and orthophosphoric acid damages tooth enamel. Even seemingly harmless tangerines can do harm. For these fruits to be beneficial, you should eat no more than three or four fruits a day. The fact that tangerines contain histamine - if you overeat, pseudo-allergic reactions are possible, emphasized the gastroenterologist.
"Colossal harm to the body is also caused by excessive alcohol consumption. First, alcohol provokes appetite. Secondly, overeating, especially together with alcohol consumption, is dangerous for people with GI diseases. Prolonged holidays can provoke exacerbation of gastritis and gastroduodenitis, pancreatitis, bowel disorders, ulcer disease," - explained Kharchenko.
To make the New Year's table healthier, the doctor recommended following a few tips. Before proceeding to the main courses, it is desirable to start with a salad of fresh vegetables and greens, as well as to adhere to the rule of the plate: choose a protein dish and supplement it with complex carbohydrates. In addition, the specialist advised not to mix too many dishes and limit alcohol, and if giving up alcohol was not in the plans, it is better to make a choice in favor of dry wines.
"Hot things can be made more useful. Poultry, lean beef, fish can be baked in foil or sleeve, without adding mayonnaise. Kholodets, for example, is very useful if you make it from lean meat," - summarized Kharchenko.
Earlier, November 16, gastroenterologist, expert physician of the laboratory "Hemotest" Ekaterina Kashukh told "Izvestia" about the importance of an individual approach in the choice of breakfast. According to her, there is a well-established opinion in dietetics that it is important to eat breakfast, because the morning meal helps a person not to gain weight. The fact is that if you skip breakfast, then by lunch will wake up a strong appetite. And since many people eat lunch in the middle of the working day and not always full, there is a risk of overeating by dinner.
