The increase in the average old-age pension in October compared to last year is probably due to the fact that people with higher pensions reached retirement age this year. Professor Yulia Dolzhenkova of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation told Izvestia on November 19.
"Their share in the total number of pensioners is also higher. At the same time, many have remained working at their jobs, as indexation of pensions for working pensioners resumes from 2025.
The indexation of pensions for non-working pensioners is annually linked to price growth for the previous year. According to forecasts for the end of 2024, inflation will amount to 7.3%, the real value may be higher, so such growth is quite understandable," she said.
According to her, the average pension of working citizens from 2025 will increase due to indexation, but the increase will not be significant, as its size is calculated based on the amount of pension that a person would receive if he or she did not work, but is added to the pension at the current moment.
"Consequently, the size of this indexation can be from 10-13% or more of the current pension. From 2025, indexation will be unified for both working and non-working pensioners, and the difference that arose over the specified period of years, the working pensioner will receive at the end of the labor activity. In this regard, the gap will remain, but will be reduced," added Dolzhenkova.
Earlier in the day it was reported that the average pension of working Russians increased by 10% for the year - as of October it amounted to 19.2 thousand. This follows from the statistics of the Social Fund. The growth of payments for workers was faster than for unemployed citizens (7.3%), and it also outpaced inflation.
