The doctor named gout provoking foods

Gout is a consequence of metabolic disorders. More about the disease "Izvestia" on November 23 told "Izvestia" on November 23, Olga Ulankina, a medical expert of the laboratory "Hemotest".
"With gout, crystals consisting of uric acid appear inside the joints and around them. As a rule, they are formed in the joints of the big toes, but can seize ankle joints, elbows and even fingers," - said the doctor.
She noted that one of the causes of gout is a violation of protein metabolism and consumption of foods that contain large amounts of purines. Their natural sources are by-products, red meat, lemonades, alcohol, seafood. In the body, purines are converted into uric acid. Normally, the body excretes it naturally. But if there is too much uric acid, its crystals begin to deposit in the joints.
"Other possible causes of gout are genetic prerequisites, diabetes mellitus, heart and kidney failure, arterial hypertension, psoriasis, anemia," Ulankina specified.
According to her, in some cases gout is promoted by joint injuries or transferred infection, for example, pneumonia, pharyngitis or sinusitis. And sometimes the trigger for developing the disease is taking medications, such as diuretics or vitamin B3 products.
"The word 'gout' translates from Greek as 'foot snare'." And such a name is not by chance. The main symptom of the disease is a sharp piercing pain in the joint, which is accompanied by redness and swelling of the skin. Such a pain "trap" can torment a person for hours, and sometimes for days. As the disease progresses, attacks of pain occur more and more often, the joints are deformed, their mobility deteriorates. And if treatment is not started, inflammation resulting from the deposition of uric acid crystals (arthritis) can lead to the destruction of the joint", - explained the expert.
According to statistics, gout occurs in men dozens of times more often than in women, said the doctor. Researchers explain this phenomenon by the peculiarities of the hormonal background. Thanks to estrogen uric acid in women of reproductive age is removed from the body much more efficiently than in men. The risk of developing gout in this case becomes significantly lower.
"Treatment of "blue blood disease" requires a comprehensive approach. Patients with this diagnosis it is important not only to take all medications prescribed by the doctor, but also to follow a diet that allows to reduce the level of uric acid in the body", - warned Ulankina.
She drew attention to the fact that it is important to limit the use of purine-rich foods and be sure to add to the diet vegetables, dairy products, vegetable protein, which is contained in cereals, mushrooms, nuts and seeds. It is also necessary to monitor the level of vitamin C - it helps the body to cope with excess uric acid. To do this, you can introduce in the menu products rich in this vitamin - rose hips, bell peppers, currants, citrus fruits, sea buckthorn, cabbage.
"In addition, you should maintain a healthy lifestyle: watch your weight, control your sleep patterns, do not forget about physical activity, give up smoking and drinking alcohol," - concluded the specialist.
Earlier, on November 10, nutritionist Larisa Gabdulkhakova told Izvestia that packet juices, carbonated water, any drinks and products with high sugar content (sucrose or fructose), alcohol, meat and unlimited fruit consumption can lead to gout. Obesity is also a risk factor, she noted.
